Right now my emphasis is on the soon-to-debut book The Eversilver Sword, but other things are in the works by me and others that need an umbrella. Warbler Press was created to be that umbrella, and I will tell you more about those projects in the future as they arise. As for my upcoming book, one of the things that surprised me was the positive response I received from equally talented people who could easily do what I have done but were amazed that I had actually done it. It was as though writing a whole book was the equivalent of climbing Mr. Everest. I’m grateful for that. It was a long project that grew through many incarnations. Finishing is different from starting, very much so, and I am glad of that recognition for perseverance.

Or maybe the second of many because it seems as though WordPress does the first one for you. At any rate, I’ve done it. I’ve started a blog. (You’re reading it.) They all say you have to. The book experts, that is. You have to “put yourself out there.” If you want people to read your book, and even better, buy it, they have to know you exist.

What’s puzzling is that so many writers must be introverts. That’s why they spent their youth reading instead of running for Student Council, cheerleading, or running charity events. Will only extroverts be able to publish from now on? Will the introverts get left behind? Is there a whole nation of them quivering in fear behind their computers in anticipation of someone KNOWING WHO THEY ARE??

I would be happy in that group, but, alas, it cannot be. I must persevere. So I look at other people’s blogs. Oh the youth, the energy! The wide smiles and TEETH. Oh such teeth and confidence!

You won’t be getting that here. What you will get is a lot of honesty.

To kick off this soul-revealing event I will answer a question of my own choosing taken from articles on what to ask authors. That’s because there’s nobody here to ask me anything. Except the animals (2 dogs, 2 cats) and they have no interest in what keep mommy’s attention off them.

What is the book about and why did you write it?

The Eversilver Sword is the first in a series focusing on the life of a girl destined to be a warrior queen. She is no Mary Sue and isn’t very good at much of anything at the beginning. She learns and grows and struggles to do the right thing and understand where she fits in to the world.

I wrote it for a number of reasons. I didn’t think it was fair that only males got to have Hero’s Journeys and women only were allowed to sacrifice themselves. Mythically at least. One very good example is Doctor Who where the good doctor gets to have all the victories and women will usually sacrifice themselves to save him. A common theme. It works. But as a woman, I get tired of that role. I only have so much self-sacrifice to go around and it’s pretty used up by now.  

I also wanted to deal with themes in a fantasy setting that are rarely touched upon. Shh. Don’t go there—don’t talk about anything spiritual. It can be implied, but if you’ve noticed, the bad guys and evil get all the doing of things and the good guys of the world are up against them with no underpinning. Don’t get me wrong, the book isn’t preachy. But if one has experienced the oneness of the world, how can one leave it out of their fiction? I can’t. The All-That-Is is the All-That-Is on every planet.

Are there ghosts? Yes. Are there memories of past lives? Yes. Magic? Yes.

So it sounds like fun! And it is.

But… what is eversilver?

Ah, thought you’d never ask. It is as bright as new silver, stronger than steel, a lot like mithril, but better used as a weapon than armor. With a little magic in the forging, it can slice through anything—rock, ice, metal—and is only found in the mines of the world known as Allanda.
